The parents are coming. In 2022, it was announced that an Outlander sequel focusing on the parents of Jamie Fraser was in the works. A year ago, the spinoff got a name: Outlander: Blood of My Blood. Now, the series is in production, and it turns out it’s not just about Jamie’s parents—but will tell the origin story of Claire’s parents as well. Which means, of course, that the story—appropriately—takes place in more than one time.
According to Variety, “The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie’s parents in the early 18th century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in WWI England.”
Outlander is a time-travel love story; Claire (Catriona Balfe), a WWII-era nurse, finds herself in 1743 Scotland, where she falls in love with Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). The Starz series is based on the books by Diana Gabaldon, who is a producer on the incoming prequel, which has Matthew B. Roberts as showrunner and writer. (The main Outlander series was created by Ronald D. Moore.)
In Blood of My Blood, Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy will play Jamie’s parents, while Hermione Corfeld and Jeremy Irvine will play Claire’s parents.
Slater was in Pennyworth, and had a small role in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny; she’s also in the upcoming horror film Tarot. Jamie Roy’s resume includes a TV movie called Squeaky Clean Mysteries: Hazardous Duty and the WWII film Condor’s Nest. Corfield was an A-wing pilot in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a siren (excuse me, syren) in King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, and one of the stars of the British series We Hunt Together (pictured above).
Outlander: Blood of My Blood is now in production, but no premiere date has been announced. There is also no date known for the second half of Outlander‘s eighth season; the first half ended in August 2023.
